Tile Maintenance & Cleaning Tips: Keeping Your Surfaces Pristine

Tile flooring is beautiful, but it is also an investment. And to protect that investment, your tile flooring needs regular maintenance and cleaning.

While cleaning tile flooring sounds like a big job, it doesn’t have to be. These tips from Tile Superstore are simple to accomplish and will help you keep your tile floors shining and beautiful well after their installation. Consistency and regular maintenance will make your cleaning task much easier over time.

Read on for the best ways to maintain your tile floors!

Vacuum & Dust

That’s right. Your tile floors need to be vacuumed and dusted regularly. You can use a vacuum made for hard surfaces or a fluffy dust mop to remove dirt and dust from your floors, which can become embedded in your tile and grout. This is the fastest and easiest way to clean your floors.

Pro Tip: Never use a straw broom, which can scratch your tiles.

Regular Mopping

Cleaning up dust is one thing, but cleaning up caked-on mud or other debris requires a thorough mopping. This can be done about once a week or so.

You can use a mild soap to enhance your tile’s shine and color. Avoid using too much cleaner, however, because it can leave a slippery or sticky residue on your tiles that will be harder to remove later.

Check the manufacturer label on your cleaning products to ensure they won’t damage your tile. When you’re done mopping, dry your floors to avoid accidents and prevent new dust from settling.

Clean Up Spills

Just like with wood floors, it is important to clean up spills on tile floors right away. Use absorbent cloths to wipe up spills, which helps avoid dirt collection and slipping. Plus, it will reduce the chance that stains form on your tile.

For dirtier spills, use a cleanser or disinfectant. For example, raw meat and eggs require more cleaning to prevent bacteria from getting into your tiles. Use a vacuum or fluffy mop afterward to remove dust and dirt.

Add Area Rugs

Area rugs are great for warming up a room or dampening sounds, but they’re also good for keeping your tile floors clean and protected. Use area rugs to decorate and protect floors in high-traffic areas.

Deep Clean

Every so often, deep clean your tile floors. Use appropriate cleaning solutions in the recommended amounts to remove stains and greasy residue without damaging your tiles.

You can also mix half a cup of white vinegar with a gallon of warm water if you want to avoid using harsher chemicals.

Clean Your Grout

Keeping your grout clean can help keep your floors looking shining and new. You can make a paste of baking soda and water and spread the paste on your grout.

Let it sit overnight, then use an old toothbrush to scrub it. Rinse with warm water when you’re finished, and you’ll have beautiful-looking grout!
